13 Dec Honda – Blue Skies for Our Children
Honda has a long history of being dedicated to reducing their environmental footprint and they continue to ensure that their products and processes will help to protect the earth. They are designing for a sustainable future and “Blue Skies for Our Children” is their mission that is evident at all levels in their organization. Aiming to reduce their CO2 emissions by 50% by 2050 compared to a 2000 baseline, a visit to Honda’s Canadian head office reveals that they are well on their way. The white roofs of the buildings reflect heat and also collect water which is reused on the natural landscaping. Inside the building, everyone pitches in to reduce waste and almost everything is diverted from landfill sites. Like the head office, a visit to the manufacturing plant demonstrates that the facility is also zero waste to landfill. Here, the company works with suppliers to reduce or reuse packaging and when vehicles leave the facility, 80% are transported by train. A method that is four times more efficient than by truck, helping to reduce CO2 emissions by 60-80%. From developing zero emission vehicles and improved hybrid technology, to implementing a range of programs that reduces their environmental impact, Honda is ensuring that they are doing their part in leaving a cleaner future for generations to come.
