2018 The All-New JEEP WRANGLER First Glance

 

The Jeep Wrangler is still a body on frame design. However, it is 200lbs lighter than previous generation mostly do to light weight high strength aluminum parts.  This along with the tilted windshield helps to improve fuel conomy.  Every wrangler is trail rated.  Meeting specifications for ground clearance, 76cm height for water forging, better maneuverability, articulation and traction.

Of course we all know that Jeep is known for its off road prowness, but one complaint has been its driving dynamics when using it as a daily driver. It is a long open road to the off road track and I am very impressed.   The suspension feels comfortable, their is less body roll and the new electro-hydraulic power steering feels more responsive.  This is not the Jeep of old.  The interior is now, dare I say, comfortable? Yes.

Open air freedom is so much easier now!  The new soft top is power operated with just a push of a button.  There is nothing heavy, akward to figure out to enjoy the top down.

Some important information for those people wanting to actually use this Jeep for what it was meant for.  Water fording capability stands at 30 inches, and terrain clearance gets a boost with an approach angle of 44 degrees, a breakover angle of 27.8 degrees—better by 2 degrees—and a departure angle of 37 degrees, up five. Ground clearance is 10.9 inches.  We had a chace to crawl over some impressive boulders and the Jeep didn’t hesitate once.

 

 

 

 

 

Some great news?  There is also a diesel coming—thanks to popular demand on the part of the Jeep fanbase—but not until later in 2019.

Safety is priority for anybody but especially if you plan to take your Wrangler on some adventurous road conditions. This generation Wrangler has more than 75 safety y and security features. Standard safety features include traction control, electronic stability control with hill assist, electronic roll mitigation and hill descent control on the automatic.  2-door sport  starts at just under $34,000 and the top rubI can 2 door is 46,345 and 4 door about $2000 more.

A Jeep Wrangler has always been one of my favorite vehicles.   As much as I know it has legendary off road capablities, I was never that happy with its every day driving characteristics.  Better off road ability, improved on road dynamics, better fuel efficiency… I think 2018 is the best Jeep yet.
